Solar savings power MEH Plant & Equipment Hire’s next chapter of growth

MEH Plant and Equipment Hire (MEH) was established a decade ago in Wingfield, South Australia. Originally a small family-run business, the company has grown to become one of the state’s leading short- and long-term equipment hire operators, catering to both multi-million-dollar civil engineering projects and local tradespeople.

Now a Tier 1 supplier, MEH has increasingly adapted its systems and processes to meet the evolving demands of the civil construction industry.

For MEH Manager Rick Martino, an important step in the company’s evolution was to decarbonise operations – reducing energy bills while advancing MEH’s sustainability goals.

In August 2024, Rick contacted Choice Energy to scope a suitable solar system for the MEH warehouse. After assessing the building’s roof, energy consumption, and future growth needs, Choice’s Andrew Ksefteris recommended a 25kW solar system comprising 65 Trina Solar Panels and a Fronius Eco inverter

Industry: Equipment Hire

Channel Partner: Choice Energy

Solar system size: 25kW

Equipment:

  • 65x 440 Trina Solar Vertex S+ panels
  • 1x Fronius Eco 25kW inverter

Payment Plan term: 5 years

To manage the cost of the project, Rick chose a $0 upfront Smart Ease Payment Plan.

“Avoiding the upfront cost meant we could start seeing savings while paying off the system,” said Rick Martino. “And the reduction in our energy bills has already been significant.”

With the new system in place, MEH is now cutting operational costs, lowering emissions, and setting a strong example for others in the construction sector to follow.
